Mathematical modeling for flood estimation is one of the methods used in regions where the statistics is lacking. One of the most powerful softwares in hydrological analyzing of drainage basins is WMS/HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Engineering Center- Hydrologic Modeling System). Using this modeling and comparing it with observational data, hydrological response capacity of a given basin to precipitation can be viewed and analyzed. One of the fundamental deficiencies in our country is shortage of statistical databases regarding events related to precipitation. Therefore, these models, provided that suitable calibration is applied, can be applied to derive flood hydrograph to be used as basic data in designing hydraulic systems, specifically in drainage basins with no statistics. In this research, using 8 data series of recoded precipitation-runoff in drainage basin of Taham Chai in Zanjan province and by using HEC-HMS model, calibration and validation of hydrograph model for SCS unit and losses model of SCS curve number were performed. These parameters including curve number, initial losses, and lag time were calibrated based on five observational hydrographs. The results of validation phase showed that the above mentioned software is a useful tool to suggest flood hydrograph in drainage basins with no statistics.
