Publication of an article by an academic staff member of the accounting department in Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat in a journal with JCR-Q2 accreditation

The article by Dr. Maliheh Ashna, a Faculty Member of Accounting Department in Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat, entitled: "Drought effects on the Iranian economy: a computable general equilibrium approach" was accepted in the journal of "Environment, Development and Sustainability" with the credit of "JCR-Q2" and with the impact factor of "3.219".

Frequent droughts have become a challenge for Iran's economy in the last two decades, which is located in the arid region, and droughts are expected to become more severe and frequent in the future. In this research, a computable general equilibrium model was used to present the full range of economic effects of drought on Iran's economy. Water was considered as an important factor to model the effects of drought on the economy.

Numerical simulations show that drought can reduce the level of GDP by 7%. Thus, it can have negative effects on economic growth. Also, other factors included savings and household income decrease by 43% and 12%, respectively, during periods of drought. These adverse effects will lead to reduced well-being as a socio-economic consequence of drought. Besides, the demand for health products will increase by about 47%. This can refer to various diseases followed by drought. Applicable policies and laws should be put in place to improve water use and develop efficient ways to conserve water resources, especially in the agricultural sector, which consumes the largest portion of water.

The Public Relations and Research Management in Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat congratulates the article researchers and the family of Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat for the success and prays to the Almighty God for the increasing success of these dear ones.
