An article by a faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat was published in a journal with an impact factor of 7.1. September 23, 2024
According to the university’s public relations office, the article by Dr. Seyed Ehsan Shakib, faculty member of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat, and Hossein Bahrami, undergraduate student, titled “Improvement of low-cost solar-powered desalination technologies in low-light intensity” was published in the journal `Energy Conversion and Management: X` with a JCR-Q1 ranking and an impact factor of 7.1
In this study, a step-type solar-powered desalination device with an external condenser—operating based on evaporation and condensation—was tested using a solar irradiation simulator. The experiments investigated how the mass flow rate of saline water fed into the system affects freshwater yield. To boost evaporation rates, the researchers employed a technique that created hotspots on the step surfaces. They also examined the effect of using affordable and accessible natural materials, such as activated carbon and a soil-carbon mixture, on production efficiency. The findings revealed that using the soil-carbon blend increased freshwater yield by approximately 12.8% compared to using carbon alone on the step surfaces.
Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat’s research management and public relations office congratulates the researchers and the university community on this achievement and wishes them continued success.
