The First Sign Language Translator was Designed at Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat February 7, 2025.

According to Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat’s public relations office, Dr. Hossein Gholamali Nejad, faculty member of the Computer Engineering Department and Head of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Industry, and Society Relations, appeared on the live morning show *Sobhaneh* on Khorasan TV to discuss the university’s AI initiatives.

He announced that, based on a needs assessment, the first sign language translator has been designed and implemented at Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat. This translator currently recognizes eight gestures and has been delivered to the Welfare Organization for initial use. It is expected to be fully developed in the near future.

Dr. Gholamali Nejad also highlighted the university’s work on facial recognition and license plate detection software, noting that the platform developed at the university is more cost-effective than existing market solutions, which typically require high-performance hardware.

It is worth mentioning that, with the efforts of Dr. Shakib, President of the university, Salman Es-haqi, parliamentary representative of Qaenat and Zirkuh counties, and the support of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology, the first artificial intelligence laboratory in South Khorasan Province was inaugurated at the university in October 2024. Bozorgmehr University of Qaenat now offers a master’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence.
